The Conficker Worm virus could be a simple April Fools day joke that does nothing but it could also be a horrible virus that steals your personal information and allows criminals to steal your identity. There are a bunch of different possibilities and no one really knows what it will do.
The easiest and quickest way to determine if you have the Conficker worm virus is to check and see if your anti-virus software is working. If it has been disabled without an explainable reason then it could indicate you have the virus. Another way to check if you have Conficker is to see if you can pull up anti-virus company websites or the Microsoft security website. Usually if you have the Conficker you will not be able to pull up these web pages because the worm makes these sites unavailable so that people cannot detect or remove the worm very easily. The trickiest thing about the Conficker is the fact that there aren't really very many symptoms of it.
There however is a slight chance in some cases that you can still see these security websites and also have the conflicker worm. In order to be sure that you don't there are free scanning tools available on the Internet or if you have updated virus definitions you can simply run a virus scan for your computer.
If you do indeed find out that you have the Conficker worm the best thing you can do is have a friend download the worm patch removal tool (since you can't get to the web pages that provide it) and then have them email it to you. Then you can download it from your email and quickly remove the virus.
